Gayle Hartmann/Tucson Presidio Talk

Take a relaxing break from the holiday hubbub and join the OVHS for a presentation by Gayle Hartmann!  Gayle will speak on the topic of “Recapturing Our Spanish Past” with a focus on the history of the Tucson Presidio.  Find out more about the unique history of our city and the preservation of this historic gem.  Gayle has spent the last 35 years working in a variety of archeological arenas throughout southern Arizona.

The discussion will take place at the Oro Valley Public Library at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5.  This talk is free and open to the public.  Donations to OVHS are appreciated.

Add Saturday, December 8 to your calendar for a book talk by Jim Williams.  Jim will discuss his new book, “Claiming the Desert;  Settlers, Homesteaders, and Ranchers in Oro Valley, Arizona 1865-1965” at the Western National Parks Association.  Call one week prior to reserve a seat for the 12 noon or the 2:00 p.m. presentation. 520-622-6014

What’s in your storage?

Are you cleaning out a closet, garage, or Grandma’s attic?  Perhaps you have an antique that’s too good to throw away but doesn’t have a home with you any longer.  The Oro Valley Historical Society’s Collection Committee is seeking items that might have some local historical significance from the early 1900s that could be displayed at the Pusch Ranch House and/or the Oro Valley Public Library or used as reference materials to do historical research.

Please contact Sue Chambasian at schambasian@gmail.com to set up an appointment to have your item reviewed by one of our Collections committee members.  Thank you for keeping Oro Valley history alive!

Don’t let time run out to buy your Jim Click Millions for Tucson Raffle ticket!

All proceeds from our ticket sales benefit the Oro Valley Historical Society.  Tickets can be purchased at the OVHS tent at Steam Pump Ranch this Saturday, November 10 from 9 a.m. to Noon.   Tickets are $25 each or 5 for $100.

Second Saturday is around the corner!

Don’t forget there’s always a reason to stop by the OVHS tent at Steam Pump Ranch on Second Saturdays from 9 to 1.  Saturday, November 10 will feature a “yard sale” of gently used holiday items and other goodies, Jim Click raffle tickets, and friendly volunteers to greet you. Docents will guide you through the recently renovated Pusch Ranch House.  November 10 will also feature a Lunchtime book discussion by Jim Williams at 12 noon.  Check the event page for further information.  Hope to see you at the ranch!
